Esther van Veen (1977) graduated in 2001 from the University of Amsterdam. After studying Spanish for one year, she continued her studies at the Faculty of Arts and Literature with a Bachelor and Masters degree in the field of European Studies. Apart from her major in Italian and English language and literature, she studied Italian art and history.  After her  graduation,  Esther van Veen  travelled across Asia for a couple of months. From that moment on, she was captivated by the charm of travelling, and the sheer beauty of Asia’s cultural and philosophical traditions.
Since 2005, she has been working as a tour leader all over the world. See www.esthervanveen.com for more info.  During her many travels, she encounters fascinating exotic cultures and special places. The extensive knowledge and the personal experiences that she has acquired during  these travels, add more flavour and depth to her writings; whether these are on the Italian Renaissance, Peruvian Inca cities, Tibetan Buddhism, the enchanting souks of the Middle East, Japanese geisha dwellings or on modern art in New York.

In recent years, she has written articles on travel, philosophy and culture for SRC-Cultuurvakanties. She  has also translated and edited journalistic articles from English to Dutch for EnlightenNext. In 2010 and 2011 she has written the Dominicus city guide of Florence, which  received excellent reviews. See the 'Pers' tab for Dutch reviews. Momentarily she is writing and updating hotspots guidebooks for a large Dutch publishing house, Kosmos Uitgevers. In 2013, her book Wat & Hoe Select Singapore was published. She has written travel stories for Venture Travel Magazine and De Smaak van  Italië. For Edicola Publishing, she wrote a book on Sardinia (2014) Naples and Campania (2015) and Florence(2016).
